Student’s time investment:
30 class hours;
15 hrs preparation;
5 hrs final assignment or test preparation.
In sum: 50 hrs, corresponding to 2 ECTS.
The last semester can be divided into two segments. First and foremost, the students polish their intrepreting skills during regular classroom sessions oriented towards developing the ability to render details, keep target text logic, maintain correct articulation and proper style. The students practise by means of various advanced texts of different style and logic, delivered by different source text speakers.
In addition, the students work in groups and take part in sessions simulating the real-life interpreting experience, i.e. the so-called mock conferences. These sessions are aimed at preparing the students for work post-graduation. The participants develop the ability to prepare for an assignment, cooperate with their boothmates, work with the virtual client and behave adequately during the assignment itself.
The practical exercises are supplemented with projects conducted on one’s own or in teams, related to the development of vocabulary and general knowledge, e.g. by means of preparing vocabulary lists or presentations.
In order to raise the awareness of professional standards, the students are encouraged to take part in university conferences where simultaneous interpreting is provided.
Furthermore, the EU accreditation test is also covered when it comes to simultaneous interpreting together with the quality assessment criteria.
The students also take part in extra-curricular virtual classes conducted with partner national and foreign institutions, including universities and EU facilities.

Learning outcomes
KNOWLEDGE
The graduate knows:
− advanced strategies and techniques of simultaneous interpreting, as well as the rules of cooperation in the booth and working with a microphone (S2_W02, K_W01, K_W02, K_W03, K_W10)
− fundamental problems of simultaneous interpreting as an interlingual and intercultural phenomenon (S2_W04, K_W01, K_W02, K_W10).
− economic, legal and ethical conditions of working as an interpreter (S2_W06, K_W09, K_W13)
SKILLS
Graduates will be able to:
− translate highly specialised texts and speeches by various speakers (S2_U01, K_U01, K_U03, K_U05)
− simultaneously interpret from Spanish into Polish (language A) and from Polish (language A) into Spanish long texts with a high level of lexical, phraseological and structural difficulty, as well as ‘accreditation’ texts that appear in external examinations (S2_U04, K_U03, K_U04, K_U07, K_U08, K_U09, K_U10, K_U11, K_U13)
− use mnemonics in the booth (S2_U01, K_U01, K_U03, K_U05)
− cooperate with other interpreters when performing an interpreting task (S2_U07, K2_U07, K2_U10)
SOCIAL COMPETENCES
Graduates are prepared to:
− uphold the professional ethos of interpreting and observe and develop the principles of professional ethics for interpreters, such as conduct in the booth, teamwork, working with another interpreter during an assignment, and cooperation with clients (S2_KO8, K_K04, K_K05)
− responsibly perform the professional role of an interpreter, taking into account changing market needs, in particular social needs (S2_KO7, K_K02, K_K03, K_K04)
− critically evaluating original texts/oral statements and their translations: accuracy – comprehensibility – completeness – fluency – articulation – style (S2_KO1, K_K01, K_K05, K_K06)
− applying the principles of preparation for work and improving lexical and technical skills, as well as preparing for an assignment, recognising the importance of knowledge, including translation knowledge, in solving translation problems. (S2_KO2, K_K01, K_K02, K_K05)
Assessment criteria
Assessment criteria and methods:
- attendance at classes (a maximum of 2 absences per 30 contact hours is permitted). In the event of more than two unjustified absences, the student should ask the lecturer to determine the form of assessment for the material covered in the classes they were absent from. An unexcused absence of 50% of classes (or more) will result in a failing grade at the end of the semester
- active participation in classes
- successful completion of the translation of the final text(s); assessment criteria:
- 60% - content
- 20% - language
- 20% - technique/presentation
The same criteria apply to resits.
