Student’s time investment:
60 class hours;
30 hrs preparation;
10 hrs final assignment or test preparation.
In sum: 100 hrs, corresponding to 2 ECTS.
If classroom learning is impossible, the workshop will be conducted with the help of distance communication tools, most probably Google Meet and others recommended by the University.
The aim of the course is to enhance the basic simultaneous interpreting skills acquired during the first semester. Irrespective of developing the skills of paraphrasing, rendering sense and logic, interpreting facts (including numbers and proper names), constructing logical target texts and speaking fluently, the students learn to render the style and intentions of the source text speaker, maintain accurate register, as well as interpret details of specialised texts and manage articulation and the microphone. Students also develop mnemonics while working in the booth. At the same time, the teacher provides for practical information about the interpreting profession and cooperation with other interpreters. In the course of the semester, the students polish their interpreting skills, working with various texts of different topics, styles and registers. At the same time, they enhance their general knowledge and language skills, both in their foreign and native language.

KNOWLEDGE
The graduate knows:
− types and forms of simultaneous interpreting and its development trends (S2_W01, K_W02, K_W03, K_W05, K_W11).
− basic strategies and techniques of simultaneous interpreting, as well as the principles of cooperation in the booth and working with a microphone (S2_W02, K_W01, K_W02, K_W03, K_W10).
− fundamental problems of simultaneous interpreting as an interlingual and intercultural phenomenon (S2_W04, K_W01, K_W02, K_W10).
− economic, legal and ethical conditions of working as an interpreter (S2_W06, K_W09, K_W13).
SKILLS
The graduate is able to:
− translate specialist texts and speeches by various speakers (S2_U01, K_U01, K_U03, K_U05)
− simultaneously interpret from Spanish into Polish (language A) and from Polish (language A) into Spanish texts longer than 10 minutes with a high level of lexical, phraseological and structural difficulty (S2_U04, K_U03, K_U04, K_U07, K_U08, K_U09, K_U10, K_U11, K_U13)
− use mnemonics in the booth (S2_U01, K_U01, K_U03, K_U05)
− cooperate with other interpreters when performing an interpreting task (S2_U07, K2_U07, K2_U10)

The graduate is prepared
− to uphold the ethos of the interpreting profession and to observe and develop the principles of professional ethics for interpreters (S2_KO8, K_K04, K_K05)
− to critically evaluate oral statements and their translations. (S2_KO1, K_K01, K_K05, K_K06)
− to apply the principle of preparing for work and improving lexical and technical skills, and to recognise the importance of knowledge, including translation knowledge, in solving translation problems. (S2_KO2, K_K01, K_K02, K_K05)
