Student workload:
30 contact hours;
15 hours of preparation for classes;
5 hours of preparation for the final assessment.
Total approx. 50 hours = 2 ECTS pts.
The classes are designed to develop interpreting skills based on a variety of texts of increasing difficulty, as well as to improve advanced translation skills and cooperation in the interpreting booth. Participants will practise simultaneous interpreting of texts from various fields, such as politics, economics, law, science, culture and ecology, which will allow them to gradually broaden their range of topics and adapt to a variety of contexts. Simulations of various types of events, including parliamentary debates, press conferences, scientific presentations, discussion panels and public speeches, are also planned, enabling students to develop their ability to react quickly to changing communication conditions. Particular emphasis will be placed on the development of specialist and general vocabulary, both in the native language and in the foreign language. The classes include translation exercises from a foreign language into the native language and from the native language into a foreign language, which helps to develop a full repertoire of conference interpreter skills.

The graduate knows:
1.the types and forms of simultaneous interpreting and its development trends (S2_W01, K_W02, K_W03, K_W05, K_W11)
2. the basic strategies and techniques of simultaneous interpreting, as well as the rules of cooperation in the booth and working with a microphone (S2_W02, K_W01, K_W02, K_W03, K_W10)
3. fundamental problems of simultaneous interpreting as an interlingual and intercultural phenomenon (S2_W04, K_W01, K_W02, K_W10).
4. economic, legal and ethical conditions of working as an interpreter (S2_W06, K_W09, K_W13)
SKILLS
The graduate is able to:
1. interpret specialist texts and speeches delivered by various speakers (S2_U01, K_U01, K_U03, K_U05)
2. simultaneously interpretfrom French into Polish (language A) and from Polish (language A) into French a text of over 10 minutes in length with a very high level of lexical, phraseological and structural difficulty (S2_U04, K_U03, K_U04, K_U07, K_U08, K_U09, K_U10, K_U11, K_U13)
3. use mnemonics in the booth (S2_U01, K_U01, K_U03, K_U05)
4. cooperate with other interpreters when performing an interpreting task (S2_U07, K2_U07, K2_U10)

1. uphold the ethos of the interpreting profession and observe and develop the principles of professional ethics for interpreters
