Consecutive interpreting (B language) -German - level 3 3200-M2-3TKOBN3

The aim of the course is to familiarize students with basic aspects related to consecutive interpreting (basic processes taking place during interpretation, note-taking, mnemotechniques, strategies, ethics in interpreting, etc.), as well as to provide them with an insight into the profession. During the course, student focus not only on perfecting the technical skills needed for interpreting, but also expand their general knowledge and command of lanugages (mother tongue and the foreign language).

If classroom learning is impossible, the workshop will be conducted with the help of distance communication tools, most probably Google Meet and others recommended by the University.

Prerequisites (description)

(in Polish) Kurs obejmuje następujące zagadnienia: 1. wprowadzenie: podsumowanie i przypomnienie wiedzy teoretycznej dotyczącej tłumaczenia konsekutywnego nabytej w module TKO1 i TKO2 2. tłumaczenie konsekutywne z notacją, teksty trwające od 3 do 6 minut, o zróżnicowanej prędkości 3. rozwinięcie umiejętności w zakresie technik notacji w tłumaczeniu konsekutywnym: notowanie struktury tekstu oraz treści, ćwiczenia na tekstach o długości od 3 do 6 minut o zróżnicowanej prędkości 4. identyfikacja problemów i błędów w notacji; notacja w tekstach z dużą ilością informacji 5. alternatywne tryby tłumaczenia konsekutywnego: liaison/ad hoc, sim-consec. 6. Symulacja zlecenia konsekutywnego w trybie tłumaczenia konsekutywnego dialogowego, z dynamiczną zmianą kierunku tłumaczenia (na język A i B) 7. Wprowadzenie do wykorzystania przenośnych zestawów do tłumaczenia (infoporty, PIEs) w trybie konsekutywym i mieszanym 8. Etyka w pracy tłumacza ustnego 9. Zapewnienie jakości w pracy tłumacza ustnego

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the student:
- is able to interpret consecutively (with notes) a general text (c.a. 6 mins)
- is able to interpret consecutively (with notes) a semi-specialised text (c.a. 6 mins)
- is able to make a sight interpretation
- is familiar with other forms of interpreting (chuchotage, liaison) and is able to provide them
- is able to assess an interpretation and to describe possible errors
- is familiar with the ethics and professional aspects of the work of an interpreter

Assessment criteria

Credit criteria:
- attendance
- active participation in the classes
- positive results from the "intro-tests"
