The primary goal of the course is to convey the meaning expressed in the source language to the target language, so that the text is made in accordance with the principles of the target language system.
As part of the course, students are acquainted to selected basic professional terminology and various types of specialist texts. Students are presented with translation strategies that would enable them to translate specialized texts.

Total value of ECTS points = 2
Contact hours (in the room) = 30h = 1 ECTS
(30h = 1 ECTS)
Independent student work outside the classroom:
Current preparation for classes - 30h = 1 ECTS
If classroom learning is impossible, the classes will be conducted with the help of distance communication tools, most probably Google Meet and other tools recommended by the University.

KNOWLEDGE
The student is expected to
- know the extended terminology of applied linguistics (including translations) (K2_W02);
- have in-depth knowledge of the language phenomenon, its complexity and historical variability (K2 _W01)
- know different translation-techniques (also in the field of textes for special purposes) (S2.1-W02)
SKILLS:
The student is expected to
- be able to prepare various types of scholar written studies in Polish and German language (K2_U03);
- be able to demonstrate language performance at C level according to Council of Europe Framework of Reference (K2_U07)
- translate efficiently texts into the target language using professional terminology, idiom, style and register (S2.1_U01)
- be able to use dictionary and text sources to solve language problems (S2.1_U02);
SOCIO-CULTURAL COMPETENCY:
The student
- can properly identify and resolve the dilemmas of interlingual communication (K2_K03);
- can develop and improve acquired knowledge in Italian and German language (S2.1_K02);
- can interact and work in a group, taking different roles in it (including the role of a translator/interpreter) (S2.1_K07);
Assessment criteria
Methods of evaluating the work of students:
- steady evaluation (activity), preparation for the lessons, homeworks
- mid-semester exam and final written exam.
Assessment criteria:
The final grade comprises:
- steady evaluation (activity) – 50%
- written exam – 50%.
The overall result is established in accordance with the following scale:
51%-60% = 3
61%-70% = 3+
71%-80% = 4
81%-90% = 4+
91%-100% = 5
The conditions of a positive mark is regular taking part in the classes and written translation of texts done in the classes. (three unauthorized absences allowed in the semester)
