Elective course: The Image of Venice in Italian Literature 3200-M2-2PFW2
The course covers an outline of the history of Venice from the earliest times to the present day. It is aimed at getting acquainted with the history, art, architecture and culture of the city, and especially with its image on the pages of works of Italian literature by such authors as: Dante, Petrarca, Boccaccio, Goldoni, Casanova, Pellico, Boito, D'Annunzio, Cardarelli, Comisso, Buzzati.
The course consists of the following topics:
- an outline of the history of Venice
- elements of Venetian culture
- reading and analyzing literary works in which there is a description of the city or the action takes place in it.

Skills: Graduates are able to
K_U02 - Identify cultural elements characteristic of the language area being studied and interpret socio-historical changes occurring within the language area being studied.
K_U04 - Use advanced linguistic research tools and select research methods appropriate to the problems being addressed.
K_U08 - Cooperate and work in a group, assuming the role of a language mediator.
K_U12 - Independently acquire knowledge in the field of literary studies and evaluate the usefulness of learned methods, practices, and procedures in their own professional activities.

Assessment criteria
- Continuous assessment (continuous preparation for lectures and completion of assignments during lectures)
- Oral exam
The course grade includes:
- 30% continuous assessment, i.e., continuous preparation for lectures;
- 70% final oral exam
Rating scale:
over 90% – 5
85%-89% – 4+
80%-84% – 4
70%-79% – 3+
60%-69% – 3
1. Absences: Two unexcused absences are permitted per semester (in accordance with the University of Warsaw regulations: attendance is mandatory! This may be a requirement for passing the course).
2. Lack of preparation: Students must be prepared for each lecture. Students may report up to two instances of lack of preparation per semester (e.g., failure to read texts, missing materials, etc.).
