Translation of specialised texts – teacher’s choice (C language) - Russian 3200-M2-1TSACR
The aim of the course is to familiarize with the specificity of specialist translations from Russian into Polish and / or from Polish to Russian, and to develop techniques and proficiencies in this field.
Students carry out analysis of translations, deepen their knowledge in the field of translation strategies and techniques, improve their translator's skills through independent translation, autocorrecting and commenting on applied solutions.

About 30 hours of individual preparation
In sum: 60 hours, an equivalent of 2 ECTS points.
CONTENT OF EDUCATION:
- theoretical aspects of specialized translation and their practical implications for creating translation;
- the specifics of specialized translation and its impact on the selection of appropriate translation strategies and techniques;
- proper selection of dictionaries, sources and analogous and parallel texts;
- matching the translation to the recipient;
- preparation of glossaries from the field in question;
- shaping a professional approach to the simulated order and the client.
SUBJECT:
It includes translation of specialist scientific and literary texts.
TYPES OF TEXTS:
- specialist and paraspecial texts (eg fragments of scientific monographs, scientific and popular science articles), literary texts, documentary films, audio texts.
WORK FORMS:
- analysis of existing translations of texts from a given field;
- translations of self-prepared short and longer specialist, para-specialized and literary texts and their discussion concluded with an attempt to obtain an optimal solution due to its specificity, function and recipients;
- teamwork taking into account different roles (translation - adjustment and editing);
- autocorrect exercises.
Students carry out analysis of translations, deepen their knowledge in the field of translation strategies and techniques, improve their translator's skills through independent translation, autocorrecting and commenting on applied solutions.
The form and conditions of resits are the same as those for course credits obtained at the usual time, unless it is impossible due to organizational reasons (in such a case, the form of obtaining the course credit may change).
If classroom learning is impossible, the workshop will be conducted with the help of distance communication tools, most probably Google Meet and others recommended by the University.

- properly qualifies the type of text;
- knows appropriate translation strategies and techniques tailored to the needs of specialized translations;

SKILLS:
- can analyze the text in terms of pragmatics and choose the appropriate method of translation;
- is able to select specialized dictionary and text sources and use them;
- translates texts correctly, in a clear and transparent way;
- can justify chosen strategies and translation techniques;
SOCIAL COMPETENCE:
- can work independently and in a team;
- knows the rules of professional translator's ethics.
Assessment criteria
Continuous rating based on:
- presence, preparation for classes and activities;
- independent work (including preparation during the semester of the required number of translations with autocorrect including the group leader / comments, preparation of glossaries);
- the end of the semester credit (in the form of a colloquium checking the knowledge of lexis of translated texts).
Criteria for translation evaluation:
Translations are interpreted in the aspect of translation and pragmatic, linguistic and formal.

Two absences are allowed. (If the limit is exceeded, the student should ask the teacher for compensation assignments; if the number of absences exceeds 50%, the student fails the course in accordance with the Rules of Study).
