Warsztaty trwają jeden semestr i poświęcone są nauce tłumaczenia pisemnego tekstów popularnonaukowych, naukowych i technicznych.
Treści kształcenia:
- specyfika tłumaczenia specjalistycznego pisemnego tekstów NT
- strategie tłumaczenia pisemnego w odniesieniu do tekstów NT
- redagowanie tłumaczonego tekstu (kontynuacja) ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem przypisów i bibliografii
- właściwy dobór słowników, źródeł i tekstów analogicznych oraz paralelnych: ocena ich wiarygodności i wartości pozyskanych ekwiwalentów
- rola glosariuszy w tłumaczeniu tekstów NT
- problem dopasowania przekładu do odbiorcy
- problem zapożyczeń i terminów rodzimych w tekstach NT
- rola dokumentacji wizualnej w tłumaczeniu tekstów technicznych
- zalety i ograniczenia narzędzi CAT w tłumaczeniu tekstów NT ( w miarę możliwości technicznych w sali)
- etyka tłumacza w odniesieniu do tekstów NT
Nakład pracy studenta:
• Ćwiczenia (godz. kontakt) – 30 godz.;
• Samodzielne przygotowanie do każdych zajęć - ok. 25 h
• Przygotowanie do zaliczenia – 5 godz.
• Razem: ok 60 godz., co odpowiada 2 pkt ECTS
TYPY TŁUMACZONYCH TEKSTÓW I ZAKRES DZIEDZIN
tekst popularnonaukowy, tekst naukowy, dokumentacja techniczna, instrukcja obsługi;
teksty (przykładowo) z zakresu ekologii, medycyny, przekładoznawstwa, motoryzacji
FORMY PRACY:
- przygotowywanie samodzielnie w domu przekładów, omawianych następnie na zajęciach
- dyskusja nad różnymi wersjami tłumaczeń wykonanych samodzielnie i/lub zespołowo
- przekłady tekstów krótkich, wykonywane bezpośrednio na zajęciach
- praca zespołowa z uwzględnieniem różnych ról
- analizy tekstów paralelnych
- analiza dostarczonych przez wykładowcę próbek przekładów błędnych
- praca z bazami terminologicznymi i innymi źródłami danych terminologicznych
- przygotowanie glosariuszy (tradycyjnie lub ew.przy zastosowaniu narzędzia CAT, np. Trados TermBase)
- przygotowanie projektu translatorskiego w grupie lub samodzielnie
- w miaręmożiwości technicznych przekład na zajęciach przy zastosowania programu CAT (MemoQ lub Trados)
W przypadku braku możliwości prowadzenia zajęć w formie stacjonarnej
zajęcia będą się odbywać przy użyciu narzędzi komunikacji na odległość,
najprawdopodobniej w Google Meet oraz innych zalecanych przez UW.

KNOWLEDGE:
- knows and properly uses specialized vocabulary and collocations sufficient for correct scientific and technical translation;
- has basic knowledge concerning scientific and technical translation;
- knows the strategies and techniques of scientific and technical translation;
- knows the specificity of scientific and technical translation.

- correctly qualifies text types;
- is able to apply appropriate translation strategies in practice and justify their choice;
- is able to select specialized dictionary and text sources, assess their value and use them;
- is able to produce correct and comprehensible translations of specialized and general texts form a given discipline;
- is able to justify and critically evaluate own translation choices;
- is able to proofread his/her own translation;
- possesses the skill of self-correction;
- is able to prepare correct graphical form of translated texts;
- is able to create a glossary;
- possesses the basic skill of using a CAT program (is able to create and carry out a translation project with a translation memory and a glossary, preserve the original formatting of translated texts, perform quality check, export target texts in a given format to a designated place).

Assessment criteria
Continuous assessment based on:
- attendance;
- preparation for classes, quality of work in class;
- translations prepared individually
- timeliness of submitting the assigned tasks;
- mid-term tests checking the knowledge of terminology;
- preparation of glossaries;
- passing the final translation or test
Assessment criteria:
- attendance (absences allowed; (2 absences admissible; in the case of a higher number of absences, the decision on credit remains at the discretion of the lecturer. More than two unjustified absences per semester may constitute grounds for lowering the final grade);
- the quality of works and tests: the scale given below;
- timeliness - criteria given by the lecturer in the syllabus.
. The second-term credit shall follow the same rules and form as the first-term credit, unless this is not technically possible.
