MA Proseminar - Spanish language 3200-M1-PROH
The main objective of the seminar is to prepare students to write an MA thesis in Spanish. The students shall:
- improve their skills in writing academic texts in Spanish,
- study methodology applied in translation and linguistic studies,
- read related literature,
- develop their skills in critical reading of academic texts and using the sources,
- develop their skills in presenting and defending their arguments.
Student’s workload (4 ECTS), including:
- active assistance in the classes (30 hours) – 1 ECTS
- independent reading and text analysis (30 hours), preparing presentations or papers (15 hours), preparing a seminar paper (20 hours), seeking library source materials (15 hours) – 3 ECTS
FORMS OF WORK
If classroom learning is impossible, the workshop will be conducted with the help of distance communication tools, most probably Google Meet and others recommended by the University.

Completed the course, the students:
KNOWLEDGE:
- know basic literature relating to applied linguistics (K2_W02)
- know how to write research papers (K2_W02)
- know basics of research methodology (K2_W07)
SKILLS:
- can seek library source materials on a given topic (K2_U01)
- can write a research paper (K2_U04)
- can write footnotes, endnotes, bibliography, indices, etc. (K2_U03)
- can express themselves on a topic of interest (K2_U06)
ATTITUDES:
- are ready to recognize the importance of knowledge in solving cognitive and practical problems and to consult experts in the event of difficulties in solving the problem on their own (K2_K06)
- understand the importance of applying adequate, scientifically substantiated criteria of translation and interpretation assessment (K2_K08)
Assessment criteria
Continuous assessment based on an active assistance in the classes (preparation for and participation in discussions; presenting an academic text; a presentation).
Seminar paper.
Two absences are possible.
The students with an unauthorized absence at more than two classes shall not be admitted to a final test and shall not get a credit.
An exceeded limit of (be it authorized or unauthorized) absences needs agreeing on a form of passing of a learning unit covered during a particular class with the trainer.
