Communicative Competence Development of Language B - Polish Sign Language 3200-M1-4DKKBM
The course focuses on developing language and communication skills in academic contexts using Polish Sign Language (PJM). It is intended for students preparing to write their master’s thesis. The goal is to strengthen their ability to understand texts and formulate academic oral and written statements. The thematic scope includes: analysis and commentary of academic texts, development of formal vocabulary and grammatical structures specific to PJM, learning to express attitudes and opinions appropriately in academic contexts, training in argumentation, preparation for oral presentations (both individual and group), analysis of student-created video recordings, and individual consultations with the instructor.
Student workload: 30 hours of contact classes, 70 hours of individual work (reading, preparing presentations and written assignments, exam preparation), Total: 100 hours.
If in-person classes are not possible, they will be conducted online using tools recommended by the University of Warsaw.

Learning outcomes
Knowledge
– the graduate knows and understands: the complex structure of language as a system (K2_W01), the role of language in communication (K2_W10). Skills
– the graduate is able to: apply acquired knowledge in preparing and delivering content in PJM (K2_U01, K2_U02), search for, analyse, evaluate, and select information in PJM (K2_U04), use PJM at level C2 according to CEFR (K2_U09).
Social Competences – the graduate is prepared to: critically analyse and evaluate content (K2_K01), identify and solve communication problems (K2_K02).
Assessment criteria
Assessment methods include:
• continuous assessment (participation, preparation, task completion),
• homework assignments,
• preparation and delivery of presentations and video materials.

The course ends with an exam. A maximum of two absences per semester is allowed.
