Translation Theory 3200-M1-3TPU
The aim of the course is to learn about the history of interpreting, the current state of the profession of conference, community, and sign language interpreters, and the prospects for development related to globalization, internationalization, and the application of new technologies both in the profession and in the education of interpreters. The second aim is to learn about the various aspects of interpreting understood as a process and a product. Issues such as strategies and techniques in interpreting, classification of errors, evaluation of interpreting, stress in interpreting, ethical aspects of interpreting, especially community interpreting, sign language interpreting, stages of professionalization of the interpreting profession, and the use of new technologies in interpreting are discussed.

Knowledge: the graduate knows and understands:
K_W02 - in depth the psycholinguistic, biological, cultural, and linguistic aspects of language usage, including in interpretation.
K_W03 - an in-depth understanding of specialized terminology in the fields of applied linguistics and the theory of interpreting.
K_W05 - in depth the major development orientations and modern research trends in language studies, as well as major research centres for language studies.
K_W06 - an in-depth examination of the research methods used in linguistics and the theory of interpreting

K_U01 - utilize the acquired knowledge for research in language studies, using the appropriate methodology (including avanced information communication technologies).
K_U02 - identify the cultural elements characteristic of the studied language area and interpret socio-historical changes ongoing within the studied language area.
K_U03 - search for, analyze, evaluate, and select information in the native language and in foreign languages.
K_U04 - use advanced research tools of language studies and select research methods appropriate for the problems under consideration.
K_U08 - cooperate and work in a group, assuming the role of a language mediator. P7S_UO
K_U09 - autonomously acquire knowledge in the field of language studies and assess the usefulness of the learnt methods, practices, and procedures in professional activity.
