Terminology A and B - russian language, level 1 3200-M1-2TAB1R
The aim of the course is to deepen the knowledge of A and B language terminology on the example of two selected modules from among those proposed in a given educational cycle in the field of legal, economic, general technical, specialist - field, medical, political and social sciences terminology.
The exercises pursue various objectives: from distinguishing general texts from specialist texts, getting to know specialist terminology from selected thematic circles, expanding the range of specialist vocabulary, through improving language skills in selected fields in A and B languages, to improving the process of translating specialist texts and creating terminological glossaries with the possibility of exporting data to translation memories.
Students develop their skills in preparing for specialist translation, as well as solving encountered terminological problems using terminology sources available in A and B, and improving their skills in qualitative assessment of terminology sources.

At the end of the course, the student demonstrates the following skills:
(KNOWLEDGE) - the student knows and understands:
- The complex structure of language as a system and its historical variability to a greater extent (K2_W01)
- terminology in linguistics, in particular terminology (K2_W02)
- main directions of development and main scientific achievements in the field of linguistics (K2_W06)
- Interconnection of applied linguistics (in particular terminology) with other fields of science (K2_W09)

- in an extended scope, the role of language in communication between people and cultures, as well as cultural differences as an important factor in the development of relations in the modern world (K2_W11)
- to a greater extent, socio-economic and legal realities in areas related to the languages studied (K2_W12)
- the key concepts used in the fields of knowledge covered by the studies (terminology), i.e. the concept of text, specialised text, terminology base, terminology dictionary, and the structure of languages A and B; (S2.3_W01)

- the principles of intellectual property and copyright protection with regard to terminology activities (S2.3_W07)
- basic principles of terminology in the contemporary labour market in Poland and other countries (development opportunities, employers' expectations, professional organisations) (S2.3_W08)

(SKILLS) - the student can do it:
- to a deeper degree identify characteristic cultural elements and properly interpret the occurring social and historical transformations in relation to the reality of the studied language area (K2_U02)
- advanced search, analyse, evaluate and select information in the mother tongue and foreign languages using the latest information and communication technologies (K2_U03)
- independently use advanced research tools of applied linguistics, including appropriate methods and tools to solve problems and create in-depth interpretations (K2_U04)
- communicate using various channels and communication techniques with linguistics specialists and non-specialists in their native and foreign languages in typical and non-standard professional situations requiring knowledge of techniques, strategies and different communication channels and knows how to counteract conflicts using language as a communication tool (K2_U05)
- be able to speak and write in the B language at C2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (K2_U07)
- collaborate and work in a group, taking on different roles in it (including the role of a terminologist) (K2_U09)
- manage the group, taking responsibility for the results of its work (K2_U10)
- independently acquire knowledge of linguistics (terminology) and assess the usefulness of the methods, practices and procedures learned in one's own professional activity (K2_U11)

- formulate and solve complex and unusual terminological problems and innovatively perform tasks in conditions not fully predictable by: - appropriate selection of sources and information derived from them, assessment, critical analysis and synthesis of this information, - selection and application of appropriate methods and tools, including advanced information and communication technologies (S2.3_U02)
- use their knowledge of terminology to properly observe and analyse the text (S2.3_U03)
- formulate and solve problems and perform tasks typical for professional terminological activity related to the field of study (S2.3_U04)
- communicate on specialised topics with a wide range of audiences, hold a debate on the theoretical and practical aspects of terminology, use a foreign language in speech and writing at C2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and specialised terminology (S2.3_U06)
- present the results of their observations and analyses and make judgements on terminology (S2.3_U07)
- lead a team; interact with others in teamwork and take a leading role in teams (S2.3_U08)
- translate a written or oral text in A and B, translate a text from the source language into the target language using terminology databases (S2.3_U10)
- verify and evaluate the translation submitted (S2.3_U11)
- produce terminology cards for terminology databases and compile specialist glossaries in A and B (S2.3_U12)
(SOCIAL COMPETENCE) - the student is ready to go:
- recognising the importance of the latest knowledge in the field and critically evaluating the content received, in particular research and publications in the field of terminology (K2_K01)
- adequate identification and resolution of inter-language communication problems (K2_K03)
- practice the profession of terminologist in accordance with the ethos of the profession and the rules of professional ethics (K2_K05)
- recognising the importance of knowledge in solving cognitive and practical problems and consulting experts if it is difficult to solve the problem on your own (K2_K06)
- initiating actions in support of social interest related to effective use of terminology knowledge (K2_K07)
- the application of adequate, scientifically based criteria for assessing translation (K2_K08)
- critical assessment of knowledge and perceptions of terminology (S2.3_K01)
- fulfilling social obligations and promoting social interest connected with effective use of terminology knowledge in translation practice (S2.3_K03)
- initiating actions to promote social interest related to effective use of terminology knowledge in translation practice (S2.3_K04)
- appropriate performance of the role of a terminologist taking into account the growing social needs, including - developing the achievements of the terminology profession, - maintaining the ethos of specialist translators; - observing and developing the ethical principles of the translator profession set out in the code of conduct for translators and promoting compliance with these principles, joining organisations of translators and taking action to promote the translator profession in society (S2.3_K05)
