Elective course: Introduction to conference interpreting 3200-M1-2PFN1
The aim of the class is to build students' competence in practical and theoretical knowledge of the profession of conference interpreting: simultaneous and consecutive. The class is expected to familiarize students with the techniques and types of conference interpreting, their specifics and the most important difficulties that accompany them. The issue of working with glossaries and transcriptions of speeches - one of the most difficult stages of an interpreter's work - will also be addressed.

In terms of knowledge:
- has an in-depth knowledge of interpreting research, knows the most important theories and research schools related to conference interpreting
- knows specialized terminology related to conference interpreting research
In terms of skills:
- is able to analyze scientific texts on conference interpreting
- is able to select and apply an appropriate methodology for research on conference interpreting
in terms of social competence:
- knows the cultural, political and social conditions of conference interpreting
Assessment criteria
Methods of evaluating the work of students:
- steady evaluation (activity), preparation for the lessons, homeworks
- presentation on a pre-selected topic related to the profession of conference interpreter
Assessment criteria:
The final grade comprises:
- steady evaluation (activity) – 20%
- final presentation – 80%.
The overall result is established in accordance with the following scale:
51%-60% = 3
61%-70% = 3,5
71%-80% = 4
81%-90% = 4,5
91%-100% = 5
Absences:
Students are permitted two unexcused absences per term. If a student accumulates more than two (2) absences, including excused ones, they should ask the lecturer about the form of getting credit for the material from the classes when the student was absent, and then obtain such credit before the end of the semester. If a student accumulates more than 50% of absences, he/she is not eligible for credit in this course, pursuant to the Faculty Regulations.
