The course program covers topics essential for effectively conducting the foreign language teaching process. It addresses issues related to pedagogy (from general education to more specific aspects). Students are encouraged to independently deepen their (practical) pedagogical knowledge necessary for effective teaching practice.
The course may cover the following topics:
The education system in different countries
The development of education in Poland
Educational reforms and their consequences
Homeschooling as an alternative to traditional schooling
Teacher professional development
Cooperation: teacher – principal – school counselor – parents
Teaching students with dyslexia
Special needs (ADHD, Asperger’s)
Alternative schools (community schools, Waldorf, Montessori)
Modern technologies in education
Teacher personality
Coping with stress (burnout)
How to teach culture?
How much freedom should there be in learning at school / at home?
How to support gifted / weaker students?

Knowledge:
has knowledge of the specific nature of pedagogy and is able to develop and creatively apply it in professional practice
knows the terminology in the field of pedagogy
has knowledge of contemporary aspects related to schools, education, reforms, and issues occurring in teachers’ professional lives
Skills:
is able to independently acquire knowledge and expand skills through cooperation in small groups and by sharing responsibilities
is able to present an interesting text on a given pedagogical topic
is able to conduct discussions and decide which form of discussion will be most suitable for a given topic
is able to summarize a completed discussion
is able to suggest ways to introduce practical changes in education
Social competences:
is able to cooperate and work in a group, taking on different roles within it
is able to appropriately determine priorities necessary for completing tasks defined by themselves or others
is able to present their views and/or experience as well as reflections on a given topic
Assessment criteria
The final grade is based on the preparation and conduct of a discussion as well as a credit test administered during the semester (100%)
55%-69% = 3
70%-74% = 3+
75%-84% = 4
85%-89% = 4+
90%-100% = 5
