Audiovisual Translation language B English: Voice over 3200-M1-1PALA
The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the technique of audiovisual translation in the form of voice over. During the classes, students will learn theoretical and practical issues related to the translation of foreign films into Polish.
COURSE CONTENTS:
Due to the fact that audiovisual translation requires specific competences from the translator, and the sense of the media message is the result of the relationship between verbal and non-linguistic elements, the classes focus on the analysis and synthesis of relations between the image and the text, as well as on issues related to the methodology and strategy of audiovisual translation in this form. The issues discussed in the classes include the following issues:
Analysis of audiovisual productions
Strategies and techniques for audiovisual translation
Formal requirements related to the preparation of a lector's version and a script for a lector.
Language operations accompanying translation in a lector's version.
Translation of selected fragments of films.
Student's time investment:
- class hours: 30 hours
- preparation for classes: 5 hours
- preparation of a lector's version: 20 hours

KNOWLEDGE:
After finishing the classes, the student:
has basic knowledge of audiovisual translation in the form of voice over;
knows the rules and good practices of translation in the form of voice over;
understands the limitations of developing a lector's version.
SKILLS:
After completing the classes, the student:
is able to prepare a lector's version taking into account the specificity of audiovisual discourse;
can apply appropriate translation strategies and techniques in practice and justify the choice;
is able to justify and critically evaluate his/her own translation choices.
SOCIAL COMPETENCE:
After finishing the classes, the student:
observes the requirements of the audiovisual translation market in the lector's version;
Demonstrates integrity;
is ready to critically evaluate the received content.
Assessment criteria
Continuous assessment on basis of:
attendance (Acceptable number of absences: 2, including the excused. In the event of a greater number of absences, the student should ask the lecturer to determine the form of credit for the materials from the classes. If the absence is more than 50%, it is the basis for failing the course in the light of the Study Regulations),
preparedness for the class,
quality of work in class,
self-made translations.

The voice-over evaluation criteria include the required preparation of the text, translation aspects and language issues.
