Modern trends in linguistic research 3200-M1-0WTBJA
The aim of the course is to present the current research trends in linguistics. A survey of the main linguistic currents will be conducted. Links between linguistics and other disciplines across the humanities and social sciences will be demonstrated. A special place here is occupied by a discursive turn in the light of the latest contacts of linguistics with such related areas of knowledge as, for example, philosophy, sociology, social psychology, ethnography or cognitive science. The analysis of the main linguistic trends will focus on two most important contemporary linguistic schools: generative linguistics and cognitive linguistics. It will also cover analytic methods known as corpus research and applications drawn from computational linguistics.
The student’s time involvement:
30 hrs. – class attendance
30 hrs. – individual work
(i.e., ongoing revision and satisfaction of course requirement)
If classroom instruction is impossible, the meetings will be conducted by means of distance communication tools, most probably Google Meet or those recommended by the University.
