MA proseminar- Russian language 3200-M1-0PROR
The main goal of the course is to develop students’ research skills and knowledge in order to allow them to prepare a complex Master’s thesis. During the course, students become familiar with the language and formal requirements for writing scientific papers and with specific issues in the field of literary and / or specialist translation.
Students’ Course Workload:
- In-class activities: 30 h
- Self-study: 80h
If classroom learning is impossible, the workshop will be conducted with the help of distance communication tools, most probably Google Meet and others recommended by the University.

Learning outcomes
After completing the course the student:
Knowledge:
The student knows and understands:
- terminology in the field of translation;
- main directions of development and the most important new scientific achievements in the field of translation studies;
- research methods, methods of analyzing various cultural products appropriate to selected traditions, theories or research schools in the field of discipline;
- mutual relations of translation studies with other fields of science, the role of language in interpersonal and intercultural communication, cultural differences shaping relationships in the modern world, and the socio-economic realities arising from them.
Skills:
The student can:
- use the acquired knowledge to carry out research in the field of linguistics / translation using an appropriate methodology; identify cultural elements; search, analyze, evaluate and select authentic texts in a foreign language, also using the latest technologies;
- formulate and express own views and ideas, using the arguments of other authors, formulate oral and written conclusions in a foreign language;
- cooperate and work in a research group, assuming various roles in it;
- independently acquire knowledge in the field of linguistics, assess the usefulness of known research methods;
Social competence:
The student is ready to:
- recognition of the latest knowledge in the field of translation, to critically evaluate received content and to identify problems of international communication in this field;
- permanent and active participation in the cultural life of the country and a foreign-language area;
- recognition of the importance of knowledge in solving cognitive and practical problems and to consult experts.
Assessment criteria
Detailed requirements ad methods of assessment are determined by specific course instructors teaching seminars in selected areas.
The course is finished with a grade credit.
