The course aims at presenting psychological issues relevant to the process of language teaching. It covers basic issues related to social, cognitive and developmental psychology.

Learning outcomes
The student knows and understands:
- basic concepts of psychology: cognitive processes, perception, information reception and processing, speech and language, thinking and reasoning, learning and memory (B1.W1);
- the role of attention, emotions, and motivation in behavioral regulation processes; differences regarding students' intelligence, temperament, personality, and cognitive style; the student's developmental process during childhood, adolescence, and early adulthood: physical, motor, and psychosexual development; development of cognitive processes (thinking, speech, perception, attention, and memory); socio-emotional and moral development; physical and psychological changes during puberty; development of selected psychological functions; developmental norms; as well as personality development and formation (B1.W2);
- developmental disorders of basic psychological processes, theories of integral student development: dysharmonies and developmental disorders in students, behavioral disorders, issues of shyness and hyperactivity, special talents/giftedness, functional disorders during adolescence, low mood, depression, the crystallization of identity, adulthood, identification with new social roles, as well as the formation of a lifestyle (B1.W2.);
- the theory of social perception and communication: social behaviors and their determinants, interpersonal situations, empathy, assertive, aggressive, and submissive behaviors, attitudes, stereotypes, prejudices, stress and coping mechanisms, human communication within institutions, rules of cooperation, communication processes, barriers to communication, media and its educational/formative influence, communication styles of students and teachers, communication barriers in the classroom, various forms of communication – self-presentation, active listening, effective transmission, non-verbal communication, emotional communication in the classroom, and communication in conflict situations (B1.W3);
- The learning process: learning models, including classical concepts and contemporary approaches based on neuropsychological research findings; learning methods and techniques, taking into account the development of metacognition; learning difficulties, their causes, and strategies for overcoming them; methods and techniques for identifying and supporting the development of talents and interests; barriers and difficulties in the communication process; techniques and methods for improving communication with the student and between students (B1.W4).
Assessment criteria
The final exam is graded according to the following scale:
60%-70% = 3
71%-76% = 3+
77%-83% = 4
84%-89% = 4+
90%-100% = 5
