Elective course:Graphical lexicon 3200-M-PF-LGR(II)
The course covers the principles of writing kanji ideograms, including the correct order of writing, identification of key components and analysis of complex ideographs.
Studying mainly involves practical exercises in memorising ideograms and their components in order to acquire active graphemic competence.
The correct reading of ideograms as well as the rules of selecting so-called okurigana for each character are also explained in the form of practical exercises.
A significant part of the study depends on the independent work of the student although some tasks and exercises are selected by the teacher.

KNOWLEDGE :

After completing the course student knows at least 400 Sino-Japanese characters which have been introduced. They represent the elements most frequently appearing in the texts on the basic level, such as middle school textbooks or Japanese language
teaching materials.
Skills: the graduate can
- can analyze texts critically as products of culture, search, analyze, evaluate and select authentic texts in the two studied foreign languages, and develop professional skills in applied language studies and literature studies (K1_U01),
- can recognize distinctive cultural elements and correctly interpret the ongoing socio-historical changes related to the context in a given language area (for the two studied foreign languages) (K1_U03),
- can acquire knowledge autonomously in applied language studies and literature studies with guidance from a tutor, can assess the usefulness of the discovered methods, practices, and procedures in their own professional activity (K1_U11),
Student can recognize, properly read and write down using respective graphemic articulation at least 400 characters already introduced. Student can identify the main meaning of each character and also identify its most frequent uses in ideographic
compounds. He or she is also able to present acceptable graphemic etymology.
Student can properly distinguish semantic nuances of the most of genuine words based on their heterographic notation.
Socio-cultural competence: the graduate is prepared to
- is prepared to critically assess their knowledge in the field of applied language studies and literature studies, appreciates the importance of factual arguments in solving research and practical problems (in professional situations) (K1_K02),
- is prepared to participate in the cultural life of the region, country, and Europe, using both traditional and modern forms and media (K1_K03),
Student is able to perceive still more information written in Japanese and is therefore able to participate actively or passively in different communicative situations. He or she can also try to read Japanese texts published in the media provided that they are
especially adapted to this purpose.
Assessment criteria
Final exam at the end of the semester and frequent and regular tests.
All written tests and assignments within the components and during the course are graded according to the following criteria:
below 55% – 2 (unsatisfactory – fail grade).
56% -65% - 3 (dst)
66%-70% - 3+ (dst+)
71%-80% - 4 (db)
81%-85% - 4+ (db +)
86%-99% - 5 (bdb)
100% - 5!
The student is allowed one retake of every failed graded test at the time designated by the teacher. Unexcused absence during a test or a retake forfeits that attempt.
