BA Seminar - French 3200-L3-SLF
The main goal of the course is to help in writing the BA thesis, within the field chosen by the students (linguistics proseminar: Dr. A. Kulczyńska, translation studies proseminar: Dr. D. Karczewska). Students will be familiarized with research methods appropriate for the area of their scientific interest (linguistics or translation studies), they will improve their skills in the field of quantitative and qualitative research, and their ability to write scientific texts in French.
STUDENT WORKLOAD:
participation in classes - 30 hours
preparation for classes - 20 hours
writing a bachelor's thesis - 200 hours
Total 250 hours (10 ECTS credits).
MAIN TOPICS:
- familiarization with quantitative and qualitative empirical research methods;
- developing the skills to conduct quantitative and qualitative research;
- developing the ability to present research results;
- shaping a scientific approach when writing a diploma thesis.

After completing the course, students should:

- know main principles of quantitative and qualitative research in linguistics / translation studies

- can formulate a research question or hypothesis;
- can choose or develop appropriate research methods;
- can work on research project using selected research methods;
- can interpret the results of their research and draw conclusions referring to the research question or hypothesis;
- can correctly write in the french academic style;
- can write a bachelor thesis meeting the conditions for the diploma thesis at the Institute of Applied Linguistics;
within attitudes category
- be able to work independently;
- be able to take a critical view of the results obtained and the conclusions drawn;
- understand issues relating to reliability of their BA thesis and research study
Assessment criteria
Detailed requirements ad methods of assessment are determined by specific course instructors teaching seminars in selected areas.
Bibliography
The choice of literature is adjusted individually to the specific topics of work.
