Course Outcomes
The course provides knowledge of the fundamental cultural and historical processes of the Spanish-speaking world and an understanding of their significance for contemporary Spain and Spanish America.
After completing the course, students:
know the basic issues concerning the culture and history of the Spanish-speaking world, with particular emphasis on its recent history
understand the importance of the culture and history of the Spanish-speaking world for contemporary Spain, Spanish America, and global cultural heritage, as well as their influence on the current shape of the Spanish-speaking world
are able to analyze various cultural and historical processes within the Spanish-speaking world and to apply this knowledge in professional practice, including as teachers, translators, or intercultural mediators

The student:

The student:
is able to critically analyze texts as cultural products, can search for, analyze, evaluate, and select authentic texts in the two studied foreign languages, and can develop professional skills in applied linguistics and literary studies (K1_U01)
is able to recognize characteristic cultural elements and to properly interpret social and historical transformations in relation to the realities of a given linguistic area (the two studied foreign languages) (K1_U03)
is able to determine priorities and plan actions for their implementation, understanding the need for self-education and continuous improvement of qualifications, including practical language competencies (K1_U12)
SOCIAL COMPETENCES
The student:
is ready to appropriately identify and resolve dilemmas of interlingual communication caused by asymmetries in language systems and cultural differences, while observing ethical standards and consulting experts (K1_K01)
is ready to participate in the cultural life of the region, country, and Europe, using both traditional and modern forms and means of communication (K1_K03)
is ready to undertake actions in interlingual/multilingual communication that support the preservation of the cultural heritage of a given region or country (K1_K04)

Assessment criteria
Requirements and Assessment Criteria:
obtaining a passing grade on the final written exam (the primary form of assessment)
attendance in classes
active participation in classes
regular preparation for classes
preparing a presentation on a chosen topic (one or two, to be determined depending on the chosen subjects and the number of students)
The final grade is based on the grade from the final written exam as well as active participation in classes.
Grading scale for exams:
0–60% – fail
>60–70% – pass
>70–75% – pass with plus
>75–85% – good
>85–90% – good with plus
>90–100% – very good
Both the exam and the retake exam are in written form.
Attendance policy:
students are allowed two unexcused absences
three late arrivals of more than fifteen minutes count as one additional absence
