Communicative Competence Development of Language B - Italian, level 5 3200-L3-KKKBW4a
The course is relevant to the professional language needs. It aims at enhancing the knowledge of specialized vocabulary at an advanced level; presenting different cultural subtleties necessary to better understand today’s Italian reality, mainly within the company environment; presenting the most important discursive features and formal language register. The course teaching programme concerns the following themes: (1) describing company framework, co-partnership types and companies classification; (2) food and drink sector: food products, ecological and environment-friendly products; (3) brands, marketing, and advertising: labels and their function, commercial slogans; (4) stock exchange, shares and bonds; (5) stakeholders, shareholders, clients and suppliers; (6) conference organization in the company; (7) the job market: professions, searching for a job, salaries, labour contracts, adverts, employees migration, résumé, interview.

KNOWLEDGE:
The student:
- has the Italian language knowledge at C1 level, know the linguistic structure as a system, understands its specificity (K1_W01);
- knows morphosyntactic structures, understands oral statements at C1 level; knows word definitions and synonyms within the professional domain (K1_W01);
- has a grounded knowledge of lexical and grammar issues indicated in the course description (K1_W02);
- knows and understands elements of the Italian culture, understand the role of language in the intercultural and cultural communication, understand cultural differences between Poland and Italy, mostly within the professional language use, have a good knowledge of the Italian reality and socioeconomic conditions in Italy (K1_W10).
SKILLS
- has language skills at the B2 + level according to CEFR, especially in typical demanding professional situations demanding knowledge of techniques, strategies and various communication channels (K_U07, K_U10);
- can critically analyze texts as products of culture, he can search, analyze, evaluate and select authentic texts in Italian and develop professional skills in this language (K_U01);
- can independently acquire knowledge in the Italian language, guided by the lecturer's instructions, can assess the usefulness of specific sources of information, e.g. dictionaries (online), corpora, articles, etc. (K_U03);
- can translate from Italian to Polish and vice versa various types of written texts characteristic of business language (K_U04);
- has ordered theoretical knowledge about the translation process, including specialized translations, its types and specificity, knows basic translation techniques (K_W04);
- can recognize the characteristic cultural elements and properly interpret phenomena concerning the Italian language, can adequately react in various situations typical of professional communication according to the cultural context, using the usual phrases (K_U05), (K_U08);
SOCIO-CULTURAL COMPETENCIES:WE
• is ready to cooperate and work in a group, assuming various roles and respecting rules of good communication in Italian (K1_K01);
• is ready to specify priorities and plan activities which serve to realize particular linguistic, communicative and professional objectives; understand the need of self-study and continuous upgrading of qualifications (K1_K03);
• is ready to identify and solve properly communication dilemmas in Italian and Polish, mostly within the professional domain which result from the asymmetry of both linguistic systems and cultural differences (K1_K04);
Assessment criteria
Methods of assessment of students’ work:
- assessment of the active participation in the classes,
- classroom presentations,
- homework,
- mid-term tests
- final exam in the form chosen by the lecturer
Assessment criteria:
The teacher gives a grade taking into account the 50% to 50% rule, i.e. half = work per semester on the basis of partial grades + half = grade from the final exam.
The progress assessment and the final exam grade are established in accordance with the following scale:
0-59% = ndst, (2.0) 60-67% = dst, (3.0) 68-75% = dst+ (3.5) 76-83% = db, (4.0) 84-91% = db+, (4.5) 92-98% = bdb. (5.0) 99-100%= bdb.! (5.0!)
Rules of cooperation of teachers and students:
• two absences are allowed. Consequences of exceeding the admissible limit of absence - if there are more than 2, including the justified, the student should ask the lecturer to determine the form of credit for the course material; more than 50% of absences are the basis for not crediting the subject.
• students are allowed to notify the fact of not being prepared for the classes two times in each semester.
• The student can approach the final exam after completing all tests. They have the right to take each written test twice.
The student needs to receive pass marks for all the modules in order to complete the course.
