Introduction to Literary Text Analysis 3200-L3-2WATL
The course program covers the following topics:
1. Literate species.
2. Composition of a literary work. Introduction to analysis. Analysis and interpretation.
3. Elements of style. A literary work as a specific type of expression.
4. Basic terms related to the poem.
Poetics. Poetic function.
5. Epic. Narration. Construction of the depicted world: place, time, heroes, plot, action.
6. Drama. Construction of the world depicted in the drama. Drama and theater.
The course is also designed to prepare students for independent work with the text, therefore the theoretical knowledge introduced during the classes will be used in the workshop part of the classes to analyze and interpret selected poems and short epic forms.
Student workload:
30 hours of attendance - 1 ECTS
15 hours of reading and analysis
15 hours of preparation for passing - 1 ECTS

Learning outcomes
1. The student knows and understands the basic methods of analysis and interpretation of various types of literary texts, understands the changes taking place in the literary tradition,
2. The student knows and knows how to use the basic terminology necessary to analyze and interpret a literary work.
3. The student is able to prepare a work in the field of text analysis and interpretation in Polish.
4. The student is able to substantively substantiate the analysis and interpretation carried out.
5. The student is ready to critically assess his own state of knowledge in the field of literary studies, appreciates the importance of substantive argumentation in solving research and practical problems (in professional situations),
6. The student is ready to independently analyze and interpret a literary text.

Assessment criteria
assessment criteria:
- presence (two absences allowed) and active participation of the student in the classes;
- systematic preparation for classes;
- oral and written homework;
- at least one independent work by the student, checking the level of mastery of analytical and interpretative skills;
- Final credit test
1. The final grade in the subject is the average of the grades obtained from the final thesis and the final test.
Scoring applied and rules for calculating the final test grade:

100% -96% - 5!
95% - 90% - 5
• 85% -89% - 4+
• 80% -84% - 4
• 70% -79% - 3+
• 60% -69% - 3
Unpreparedness - the student should be prepared for each class. A student may report up to 3 unpreparedness per semester (e.g. unread texts, lack of materials, etc.).
