Specialised interpreting of texts for special purposes (B/A) - Russian/ Polish 3200-L3-2TSUBR
The aim of the course is to educate competences in the scope of a fragmentary consecutive translation from language B (L2) into language A (L1) through:
- application of knowledge in the field of language communication theory to recognize a specific translation system, including information about the type and subject matter of the output text, the cognitive base of the sender and the potential recipient / recipients and other parameters of the communication situation in which consecutive interpretation is to be implemented;
- systematic implementation of procedures to minimize problems with the reception and selection of equivalents of terms in the field, represented by a given starting text (use of traditional and online sources of information - encyclopaedic, linguistic and terminological dictionaries, parallel texts, language corpora;
- improving the efficiency of listening comprehension of texts in language B, produced by the lecturer and native speakers of both languages;
- familiarize students with the rules of a short notation with an emphasis on the use of methods for recording factual data (proper names, dates, numerical data);
- exercises in identifying in the source text means expressing relevant information, constituting translation invariant;
- applying adequate translation methods and techniques;
- improving speaking skills in A and B.
The subject matter of the initial texts covers issues in the field of fields characterized by a relatively low degree of terminologization:
- international policy;
- Polish-Russian bilateral relations;
- economy;
- culture.
The course program is supported by audiovisual materials.

Total value of ECTS points = 2
Contact hours (in the room) = II semester = 30h = 1,5 ECTS
Independent student work outside the classroom:
Current preparation for classes - 30h = 0,5 ECTS.

Upon completion of the course, the student
(KNOWLEDGE)
- knows basic terminology in translation studies K_W02, S_W02, S_W02
- has basic knowledge of the language, literature and culture of studied languages; knows and understands the terminology used in translation studies S_W05
- knows two foreign languages at C1 level according to the ESOKJ; has a well-developed and well-established lexical base from various subject areas; knows morphological and syntactic structures; has an established grammar basis for studied languages; knows the basics of shaping these languages at the turn of history, from the first records to the present S_W06
- has basic knowledge of the principles of economic use of voice ; knows the principles of correct voice emission during interpreting S_W13
- knows the basic terminology of translation theory and translation methods S_W14
- is familiar with the possibilities of applying linguistic translation theory to the translator's work and translation methods in the field of specialised translation from A into B and C languages and vice versa of texts from various subject areas S_W16
(SKILLS)
- is able to translate lexemes, phrases and sentences into his/her native language and into sekected foreign languages, avoids interference errors S_U07
- analyses possible solutions to specific problems in a foreign language, can adjust appropriate language strategies - and translation strategies to solve them S_U10
- has the ability to prepare oral speeches in Polish and two foreign languages B and C S_U11
- is able to use and properly apply (general and detailed) translation strategies and techniques in specialised interpretating from B and C languages into Polish (and vice versa) and from B to C (and vice versa) S_U14
- has the ability to justify his/her choices in terms of the selected translation techniques S_U15

- correctly identifies and resolves dilemmas related to the profession of consecutive interpreter S_K09
- understands the need for lifelong improvement of the translator's skills S_K08
- is aware of the responsibility for the transferred knowledge, not only concerning the foreign language but also the cultural aspects and realities of the language area S_K05
- is characterised by readiness to work independently on extending the knowledge of the first and second language of specialisation (B and C) in further education and in professional work S_K01
Assessment criteria
1. Continuous assessment (ongoing preparation for classes and tasks during classes) 50%
2. At the end of the classes - interpreting that will be marked (50%)
