Specialised interpreting of texts for special purposes (B/A) - German/ Polish 3200-L3-2TSUBN
The aim of the course is to develop the ability to understand a text in the source language and translate it into the target language orally, applying the principles of preliminary analysis of the translated text, notation techniques or a vista translation. Students learn about the specific features of interpreting, analyse the interpreting process, as well as about the competences of an interpreter, including psychological and sociological competences. The course introduces into different types of interpreting (consecutive, simultaneous, due to circumstances).

KNOWLEDGE
The student is expected to:
- know and understand the relationship between languages and their role in culture (K1_W07),
- know and understand typical grammar terms, have a basic knowledge of selected pragmatic conditions within the Polish language and two foreign languages, recognize characteristic structures of of specialized texts, be able to apply appropriate translation strategies (S1.2_W04)
SKILLS
The student is expected to:
- be able to critically analyse texts as cultural products, to search, analyse, evaluate and select authentic texts in two foreign languages and develop professional skills in the field of applied linguistics (K1_U01),
- be able to solve complex problems and carry out different tasks within specialized translation, by using given tools and methods in the professional communication area (S1.2_U01).
SOCIO-CULTURAL COMPETENCY
The student is expected to:
- be prepared to think and act in an entrepreneurial manner working on translation, terminology or teaching (K1_K08),
- be prepared to carry out translation projects, to determine the expected workload and to search for relevant language data (S1.2_K04).
Assessment criteria
Method of Assessment:
- steady evaluation (activity), preparation for the lessons,
- homeworks,
- tests
- final oral exam.
Assessment criteria:
The final grade comprises:
- steady evaluation (activity) – 50%
- oral final test – 50%.
The overall result is established in accordance with the following scale:
51%-60% = 3
61%-70% = 3+
71%-80% = 4
81%-90% = 4+
91%-100% = 5
Three unauthorized absences allowed in the semester.
