Upon completion of the course,
KNOWLEDGE: the graduate
K1_W02 — knows the basic terminology of language (general and applied) studies and literature studies,
K1_W04 — has basic knowledge of the major development tendencies and the most significant scholarly achievements in language (general and applied) studies and literature studies,
K1_W05 — knows and understands the specificity of modern paradigms in language (general and applied) studies, has structured knowledge of theory and methodology in language studies and literature studies,
K1_W06 — knows and understands the links between applied language studies and literature studies, and other study domains and academic disciplines,
S1.1_W12 — knows the basic techniques of audiovisual translation, understands their specific nature, is aware of national preferences regarding audiovisual translation techniques,
S1.1_W15 — knows the basic principles of working as a translator in various forms of entrepreneurship (freelance, translation agencies, etc.) on the domestic and international market, knows the basic principles of cooperation with institutions (publishers),
K1_W16 — has basic knowledge of the principles for establishment and development of various forms of entrepreneurship on the translation market.
SKILLS: the graduate
K1_U01 — can analyze texts critically as products of culture, search, analyze, evaluate and select authentic texts in the two studied foreign languages, and develop professional skills in applied language studies and literature studies,
K1_U03 — can recognize distinctive cultural elements and correctly interpret the ongoing socio-historical changes related to the context in a given language area (for the two studied foreign languages),
K1_U04 — can present arguments using the ideas of other authors and autonomously formulate conclusions in speech and in writing in Polish and in the two studied foreign languages,
S1.1_U04 — can conduct a multifaceted analysis of the source text, identifying the most important translation issues,
K1_U05 — is able to communicate in the two studied foreign languages in typical professional situations that require the knowledge of communication techniques, strategies, and channels, and is capable of preventing conflicts using language as a communication tool,
S1.1_U06 — can identify the target audience of a translation and apply translation techniques appropriate to their needs and the client's requirements,
S1.1_U07 — knows and uses contemporary information technologies to the greatest extent possible in research work, translation and text editing,
K1_U08 — has advanced knowledge of Polish language rules and uses them in practice,
K1_U09 — has language skills in the two studied foreign languages as per the requirements defined for the C1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages,
K1_U10 — is capable of the appropriate use of theoretical knowledge related to the studied domains (applied language studies and literature studies) in typical professional situations, such as team projects, including interdisciplinary projects,
K1_U11 — can acquire knowledge autonomously in applied language studies and literature studies with guidance from a tutor, can assess the usefulness of the discovered methods, practices, and procedures in their own professional activity,
K1_U12 — can define priorities and plan their accomplishment, staying aware of the need for self-learning and continuous skill improvement, including practical language skills,
S1.1_U12 — knows the basics of simple software used to create subtitles and is able to develop a voice-over version for audiovisual material,
K1_U13 — can solve problems and complete tasks in partially unpredictable circumstances, assessing and analyzing the situation, and choosing appropriate methods and tools.
SOCIO-CULTURAL COMPETENCE: the graduate
K1_K01 — is prepared to adequately identify and resolve dilemmas in interlingual communication caused by the asymmetry of language systems and cultural differences, in compliance with the ethical behaviour models and by seeking experts’ opinions,
K1_K06 — is prepared to cooperate and work in a group, assuming various roles (including the role of a language and culture mediator) and complying with the principles for professional ethics (depending on the selected module: translator’s or teacher’s professional ethics),
S1.1_K06 — can act as a mediator in intercultural communication situations, takes cultural differences into account in their work as a translator,
K1_K07 — is prepared to take actions and tackle professional challenges in the social environment, demonstrating the characteristics of a reflective practitioner,
S1.1_K07 — performs his/her duties in accordance with the standards of professional ethics for translators and good professional practice,
K1_K08 — is prepared to think and act in the spirit of entrepreneurship in projects related to translation, terminology, or foreign language teaching,
S1.1_K08 — is prepared to think and act in an entrepreneurial manner in translation projects in which he/she participate as a member or organiser, is able to negotiate with institutions conducting translation activities, and is ready to undertake individual activities on the translation market (domestic and international).

Assessment criteria:
- preparation for classes, participation, partial assignments – continuous assessment,
- two tests (mid-term and final).
Grading scale:
60% - 67% 3
68% - 75% 3+
76% - 83% 4
84% - 90% 4+
91% - 97% 5
98-100% 5!
Permissible number of absences: 2. In the event of a higher number of absences, the student should ask the lecturer to determine the form of assessment for the course material. If the number of absences exceeds 50%, this constitutes grounds for failing the course in accordance with the Study Regulations.
