PART I: Issues in corpus creation and processing
1. a glimpse on corpus linguistics
2. definition of a corpus, types of corpora, history of corpus linguistics, major projects, key terms
3. creating your own corpus, copy-right issues, corpus annotation
4. methods of corpus linguistics, statistical tests
5. corpus tools
PART II: Corpora in language studies
1. corpora in language research (lexis, grammar, semantics, discourse, pragmatics, stylistics)
2. corpora and special languages
3. corpora and language acquisition
4. corpora and language teaching
5. corpora and lexicography, corpora and translation
6. other applications: culture studies, forensic linguistics
PART III: Students’ presentations
Methods of teaching and learning
- presentations by the instructor (in-class or on-line)
- selected chapters from the literature
- practical tasks consisting of corpus data analysis (e-learning)
- students' projects
If classroom learning is impossible, the classes will be conducted with the help of distance communication tools: Moodle and Google Meet.

Knowledge: the graduate knows and understands
K_W01 the complex structure of language as a system, taking into account discoveries in corpus linguistics in this area
K_W02 linguistic aspects of language use at an advanced level
K_W03 specialist terminology in the field of corpus linguistics
K_W05 the main directions of development and contemporary research trends in corpus linguistics
K_W06 the main analytical methods used in corpus linguistics
K_W07 concepts and principles of intellectual property protection and copyright law at a professional level, especially in the context of building language corpora
Skills: the graduate is able to
K_U01 use the acquired knowledge to analyze various aspects of language using corpus linguistics methods
K_U03 search for, analyze, evaluate, and select information about language using corpus tools
K_U04 use advanced corpus tools
K_U09 independently acquire knowledge in the field of linguistics and evaluate the usefulness of the methods, practices, and procedures learned in their own research work
Social competences: the graduate is ready to
K_K01 recognize the importance of the latest disciplinary knowledge and critically evaluate received content
K_K02 adequately identify new corpus tools and analytical methods
K_K06 apply scientifically grounded research criteria using corpus methodology

• preparation (in pairs) of a project consisting of (70%)
1. building your own mini-corps with a specific theme
2. analysis of collected data (three different types of analysis)
