Elective course: 50 shades of French language 3200-L2-PF-OJF
• A short introduction to the development of the French language and the reasons for its presence on all continents; • Review of the situation and specificity of language varieties in France itself (minority languages and their relationships with the standard language;
• A journey through America: the situation and aspects of the French language in Canada (Acadia) and the United States (Cajun), in Haiti;
• A journey through the Overseas Territories (COM/ DOM-TOM /PTU): creoles, life and language;
• A journey through Africa: colonialism/post-colonialism/social issues today in the “African” media (TV5 monde, series, comics, films, QCM linguistic…)
French language in the Maghreb countries,
French languages in sub-Saharan countries
Using Internet resources, we will discover what the inhabitants of these countries are talking about 50 years after gaining their independence; to this we will add a collection of lexis collected on the Internet and in scientific articles by French language specialists;
• The future of the French language in the new economic competition in the world, and especially in Africa;

Learning outcomes: After completing and passing the lecture, the student:
1. knows the theories of the development of the French language,
2. understands the specificity of language in international relations,
3. understands that linguistic diversity is an important element of identity and common wealth,
4. has a basic knowledge of issues related to colonialism and understands the impact of this period on today's world, including Poland,
5. is more open to other cultures of the world, especially Africa.
