The detailed curriculum of the course concerning culture and non-verbal communication includes the following problems:
1. Modern definitions and concepts of culture
2. Defining the concept non-verbal communication
3. The origin of language and its connections with mimicry and gesticulation
4. Body language in socio- and psycholinguistics
5. The actio theory in rhetoric
6. Non-verbal communication and savoir vivre
7. The concept of a body in Polish and other European languages
8. Non-verbal communication and phraseology
9. Somatisms in Polish and other European languages
10. History of semiotics
11. Symbols and "reading" images
12. Sign in literature and theatre
13. Image and text in films
14. Sign in advertising
15. Fashion and sign theory
The student's time involvement:
30 hrs. - class attendance
30 hrs. - individual work (i.e. ongoing revision and satisfaction of course requirement)

Learning outcomes
Student has in-depth knowledge of the methodology of cultural research and its connections with the methods of other humanities, history, culture and cultural heritage of the country and the language area, whose languages are studied,
- can apply the theories and methods of researching culture to an in-depth description and interpretation of the cultural phenomena of a country or a language area whose language is studied,
- has in-depth research skills and shows initiative in shaping its own development,
- is ready for teamwork over advanced projects regarding the culture of the country or language area that the language is studying.
Assessment criteria
In order to get credits students are requested to:
attend classes (two absences are allowed), active participation during classes, making a brief lecture, an oral exam at the end of the semester
If classroom learning is impossible, the workshop will be conducted with the help of distance communication tools, most probably Google Meet and others recommended by the University.
