During the course, the following issues will be discussed (the list may be subject to change depending on participants' interests):
1) definition and characteristics of children's literature
2) historical development of children's literature
3) European children's literature classics, global and national children's literature market, literary contests and awards for the best works of CL
4) genres of children's literature
5) fairy tales – historical background and modern interpretations
6) poetry by and for children, nursery rhymes
7) children's literature and the socialization process
8) censorship in children's books
9) controversial children's literature
10) children's literature and the challenges of the present times
11) recent tendencies in research on children's literature.
Methods of work:
lecture, discussion, group work, individual work, presentations, project work, etc.
If classroom learning is impossible, the workshop will be conducted with the help of distance communication tools recommended by the University.

KNOWLEDGE
On completing the course, students will have a deeper knowledge of children's literature and better understanding of its specific character.
SKILLS
The student is able to notice and aptly interpret the influence of cultural aspects on the production and reception of literary works for the young reader.
SOCIAL COMPETENCE
The student is ready to identify and solve communication issues resulting from cultural differences and child/adult dichotomy. The student is prepared for cooperation and teamwork, competently expressing his/her opinions and respecting the opinions of others.
Assessment criteria
- continuous assessment (preparation for class and active in-class participation, preparing written assignments and presentations, roll call)
- semester test (written or oral) checking students' knowledge of issues discussed during the course

85% – 76% – 4

below – 2
Two absences are allowed. (If the limit is exceeded, the student should ask the teacher for compensation assignments; if the number of absences exceeds 50%, the student fails the course in accordance with the Rules of Study).
The re-assessment criteria are the same as those specified above.
