Teaching systems and language skills language C - German 3200-L2-NSSJCN
The classes concern the methodology of teaching a foreign language (German) and cover issues related to the development of language systems (lexical – with elements of semantics and pragmatics, grammatical – including morphology, syntax and orthography – and phonological) and language skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) in primary school pupils, in particular in grades IV–VIII. The course discusses teaching methods adapted to the developmental characteristics of pupils at this stage, methods of selecting and evaluating teaching materials, as well as forms of exercises that develop the indicated language systems and skills, appropriate to the needs and abilities of pupils.
Student workload:
30 hours per semester – class participation
25 hours per semester – independent work (homework, assignments, preparation for the final test or oral exam).
If it is not possible to conduct classes in a stationary form, the course will be conducted using remote communication tools, primarily Google Meet and other platforms recommended by the University of Warsaw.

- has a general knowledge of the culture and literature of the languages studied, understands the role of language in communication between people and cultures, D.1.W10;
- knows and understands cultural differences as an important factor in the formation of multicultural societies in the modern world, has a general overview of the socio-economic and legal realities in areas related to the languages studied, D.1.W11;
-is able to communicate in two foreign languages studied in typical professional situations requiring knowledge of techniques, strategies and various communication channels, and is able to prevent conflicts by using language as a communication tool, D.1.U5;
- has the ability to prepare oral presentations in two foreign languages studied and in Polish based on appropriately selected source materials, using basic theoretical approaches from a selected field of applied linguistics and literary studies, D.1.U7;
- has an advanced knowledge of the rules of correct Polish and applies them in practice, D.1.U8;
- has language skills in two foreign languages studied in accordance with the requirements specified for level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, D.1.U9;

Assessment criteria
The final grade consists of a continuous assessment, three coursework assignments and a final examination. Attendance at classes is compulsory; three absences per semester are permitted. Each subsequent absence requires the completion of additional work specified by the lecturer.
1. Continuous assessment – 20%
This includes preparation for classes, activity, timely completion of short assignments, and ongoing participation in group work.
2. Assignments – 45% (15% each)
The student completes three assignments:
A presentation on a selected topic in the field of teaching methodology for language systems and skills.
An evaluation of a textbook or selected teaching materials (analysis of adequacy, progression and methodological solutions).
A language teaching project – a set of exercises developing systems (lexical, grammatical, phonological) and language skills (listening, speaking, reading, writing) for pupils in grades IV–VIII.
Each piece of work is assessed according to the following criteria:
– factual accuracy and compliance with methodological principles,
– relevance to the level of pupils and the content taught,
– consistency of structure and clarity of presentation,
– linguistic accuracy,
– practical value and applicability in teaching.
3. Final examination – 35%
The examination tests knowledge in the field of teaching systems and language skills, including: methods, teaching techniques, types of exercises, principles of material selection and evaluation, organisation of work in the classroom, and basic concepts of language teaching.
