Communicative Competence Development of Language B - Italian, level 3 3200-L2-KKKBW3a
The grammar / pragmatics module covers the following topics:
A) repetition and consolidation of grammar material at B2 level:
1. times of indicativo and congiuntivo modes;
2. dependent and independent speech (discorso diretto e indiretto);
3. passive voice (forma passiva + "sì" passivante);
4. combined pronouns and relative pronouns (pronomi combinati e pronomi relativi);
5. compliance of times in indicative, connecting and conditional modes;
6. the construction of sentences in the personal and impersonal form of the verb: (costruzione esplicita e implicita), impersonal forms of the verb: (gerundio modale, participio passato e presente);
B) introduction and consolidation of the following grammar problems:
1. the use of the joining mode in negations: non fare che ...;
2. the use of tenses: passato remoto, passato prossimo, the use of imperfetto time instead of the past tense of the current conditional, present time storico;
3. punctuation, word and sentence accent;
4. the position of the adjective in the noun's group and its meaning;
5. Derivation: diminutive and thickening (alterata): accrescitivi, diminuitivi, falsi alterati, gli alterati lessicalizzati;
6. prepositions and articles in spelling of dates;
7. plural of compound nouns :, il plurale dei nomi composti, anafora: riferimento anaforico;
8. which as a link and relative pronoun: il riferimento del pronome relativo, pronomi relativi doppi, il che - la frase scissa;
9. compliance of times in connecting and indicative mode
10. use of imperative mood with pronouns, use of imperative mood in polite form;
11. anaphoric and cataphoretic use of pronouns: dislocazione pronominals, verbs pronoun verbs: verbi pronominals;
12. dependent speech: discorso indiretto, dependent interrogative sentences: interrogativa indiretta;
13. denial: non pleonastico;
14. the most important variants of the Italian language: colloquial language: lingua colloquiale, registro familiare - la frase pseudoscissa;
15. coincidence of times: conditional and connecting modes: il condizionale con il congiuntivo; la dislocazione del congiuntivo.
C) shaping knowledge and skills in the proper application of various types of discourse and specific means of expression, as well as adapting the level of text and discourse formalities to the communication context, recipient of the message and circumstances.
The vocabulary / speaking / listening module assumes the development of vocabulary and the improvement of receptive skills - listening comprehension, and productive skills such as oral speaking skills. The goal of this part of the course is to develop these language skills by using a variety of materials, both authentic (audiovisual materials, such as movies, radio and television programs, songs, interviews; texts from websites - including press), as well as exercises from textbooks to learn Italian at B2 + / C1 level and exercises developed by the teacher. Authentic materials are designed to familiarize students with the socio-cultural reality of Italy and thus allow the development of intercultural competence.
The lexical material related to the above module covers the following issues:
1. regional diversity of Italy (landscape, cuisine, dialects, customs, holidays and traditions);
2. ancient and modern Italian art;
3. social problems: emigration and immigration, work;
4. the Italian political system, parties and politicians, socio-political problems;
5. crime, the mafia problem in Italy;
6. the situation of women in Italy in the past and today;
7. literature, writers, readers;
8. idiomatic expressions, colloquial language, youth language;
9. Italian popular culture (film, music);
10. school system in Italy.
The "Italian in the company" course (as part of the lexical module) covers the following issues:
1. Describing a company;
2. Supply chain traceability;
3. Brand and logo;
4. Describing products;
5. Advertising;
6. The stock exchange and companies;
7. Stakeholders: shareholders and majority shareholders;
8. The manager;
9. The customer.
Writing and speaking skills accompany the abovementioned lexical and grammar issues and are implemented in the order indicated. Students must master the skill of speaking on the above topics and the ability to prepare in writing:
1. a short press article;
2. stories about past events, travel memories;
3. film scene description, photo description;
4. autobiography and CV.
Course workload:
Classroom activities: 90hrs (1st semester), 90hrs (2nd semester) = 6 ECTS
Total: 180hrs = 6 ECTS (30hrs = 1 ECTS)
Self study – 60 hrs (in each semester), including:
- preparation for the classes – 20 hrs;
- preparation for the final tests – 10 hrs - and for the final exam – 10 hrs.
Total: 120 hrs = 4 ECTS

KNOWLEDGE
The student is expected to:
- have the Italian language knowledge at C1 level, know the linguistic
structure as a system, understands its specificity (K1_W01);
- know morphosyntactic structures, understands oral statements at C1
level; knows word definitions, synonyms and Italian idioms (K1_W01);
- have a grounded knowledge of lexical and grammar issues indicated in
the course description (K1_W03);
- know and understand elements of the Italian culture, understand the
role of language in the intercultural and cultural communication,
understand cultural differences between Poland and Italy, have a good
knowledge of the Italian reality and socioeconomic conditions in Italy
(K1_W10, K1_W07, K1_W11).
SKILLS
The student is expected to:
- have the Italian language knowledge at C1 level according to CEFR,
also in typical professional situations which require the knowledge of
techniques, strategies and different communication channels (K1_U05,
K1_U09);
- analyze in a critical way texts as cultural products, search for authentic
texts in Italian, prepare their analysis, evaluation and selection; develop
professional skills in Italian (K1_U01);
- be able to develop skills in the Italian language on their own, according
to the teacher’s indications; know how to assess the usefulness of
particular sources of information, e.g. web dictionaries, corpora, articles
etc. (K1_U01);
- translate short oral and written texts from Italian to Polish and vice
versa (K1_U06);
- identify characteristic cultural elements and interpret in a proper way
phenomena regarding the Italian language, react properly in every
communicative situation, considering cultural context and using
customary expressions (K1_U03);
- justify their opinion, using other authors’ views and formulate
conclusions in written and spoken Italian (K1_U07);
- prepare written assignments in Italian on discussed subjects (K1_U06);
- prepare speeches in Italian, using properly selected source materials
(K1_U07).
SOCIO-CULTURAL COMPETENCIES
The student is expected to:
- be ready to cooperate and work in a group, assuming various roles and
respecting rules of good communication in Italian (K1_K06);
- be ready to specify priorities and plan activities which serve to realize particular
linguistic, communicative and professional objectives; understand the need of
self-study and continuous upgrading of qualifications (K1_K01);
- be ready to identify and solve properly communication dilemmas in Italian and
Polish which result from the asymmetry of both linguistic systems and cultural
differences (K1_K01);
- be ready to participate in the cultural life of Poland and Italy for the promotion of both cultures, using both traditional and modern forms and media (K1_K03);
- be ready to participate in Polish and Italian cultural life, promoting both
cultures thanks to traditional and modern forms of communication and media
(K1_K04).
Assessment criteria
Methods of assessment of students’ work:
- assessment of the active participation in the classes (doing tasks in the classroom) and the preparation for the classes;
- homework;
- mid-term tests;
- written final tests in all course components, a final oral exam.
Criteria of assessment:
The final grade is the average of:
- grades obtained for completing individual course modules. At the end, the teachers of individual KKK components give a grade, taking into account the 50% to 50% rule, i.e. half = work per semester on the basis of partial grades + half = grade from the final test (exam)
- grades from the oral examination conducted during the session.
Then the coordinator calculates the average of these two grades, which is the final grade for the subject entered into USOS.
The progress assessment and the final exam grade are established in accordance with the following scale:
0-59% = failed, (2.0)
60-67% = satisfactory (3.0)
68-75% = satisfactory plus (3.5)
76-83% = good (4.0)
84-91% = good plus (4.5)
92-98% = very good (5.0)
99-100% = very good! (5.0!)
Rules of cooperation of teachers and students:
For every 30hrs of each course component:
- two unjustified absences are allowed. If students are absent more than twice during a semester (including the fact of being absent for justified reasons), they are obliged to notify this fact to the lecturer who will inform them on other form of making up the classes. More than 50% absences may result in not receiving a failing grade;
- students are allowed to notify the fact of not being prepared for the classes (e.g. not having read texts, not having materials etc.) three times in each semester;
- students can take a final exam after having passed all tests. Students have the right to retake twice each written test.
