Contrastive Grammar - French 3200-L2-GKF
Contrastive grammar classes complement the French descriptive grammar course and prepare students for translation workshops.
The exercises involve broadly defined work on the text: text analysis or comparison of the original text and its translation in terms of a selected linguistic problem (phonetic, lexical or syntactic); comparing translations; re-translation; finding and correcting linguistic errors.
Course topics:
- the phonetics and phonology of French and Polish in contrastive terms;
- word formation of French and Polish in a contrastive approach;
- the syntax of French and Polish in a contrastive approach.
Student workload:
Seminar - 15 hours
Preparation for classes - 5 hours
Preparation for the final test - 10 hours
Total 30 hours = 1 ECTS point

Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student:
in terms of KNOWLEDGE - can list the basic differences between the systems of French and Polish, both in the phonological, morphological and syntactic plane;
in the field of SKILLS - can identify sources of possible errors and difficulties for the Polish-French language pair, both in the field of teaching and translation. Can apply strategies to overcome these difficulties;
in terms of ATTITUDES - is aware of the distinctiveness of the Polish and French language systems.
Assessment criteria
The prerequisite for obtaining a pass is attendance. One unexcused absence per semester is allowed.
Credit on the basis of a written test with open questions.
