Standard Polish Usage 3200-L1-0KJP
The main focus of this course is on the correctness of standard Polish usage. The course consists of the following parts:
1. System, norm and usage.
2. Phonetic and ortographic and stress correctness.
3. Orthographic correcness, punctuation marks.
4. Inflectional correctness (inflection of proper names and geographical names).
5. Word-formation correctness.
6. Syntactic correctness.
7. Lexical correctness – neologisms.
8. Lexical correctness - borrowings.
9. Lexical correctness – innovations.
10. Lexical correctness – phraseologisms.
In the event of inability to conduct the traditional in-class lessons, the course’s contact hours will be conducted remotely with the use of the devices recommended by the University of Warsaw.

Learning outcomes
Knowledge: students recognize different types of mistakes, and know the Polish language norms on the levels of phonetics, inflection, and syntax (K_W01, K_W02, K_W08).
Skills: students use the Polish language correctly, and they are aware of the notions of the usage and the norms (K_U06, K_U08).
Social competences: students perform the assigned tasks according to the ethical norms. Students can adjust the language (including the style) to different social situations.
Assessment criteria
Methods: discussion, working with source texts, lexicographic sources, rules and exercises of standard Polish usage.
Assessment criteria: attendance at classes, passing an exam checking practical knowledge of the correctness standards of the Polish language at a level of 60%.
Two (2) absences are permitted per semester for 30-hour classes.
