Around the Musical Notation 3106-WZM-F
The subject in the exercise formula is aimed at students who want
to expand their competences related to reading non-standard
musical notations and using programs for writing notes. It will be
divided into two parts.
The first, in the form of a lecture with exercises (classes 1-7) will
be devoted to the history of musical notation along with practical
interpretation of notation through singing.
The second will be held using computers (classes 8-15). Its aim is
to familiarize participants with music programs (mainly the Sibelius
note editor).

Learning outcomes
Student:
- Knows the development of musical notation from the Middle
Ages to the present day
- Is able to read and interpret musical notation from medieval and
Renaissance sources
- Is able to read and interpret contemporary musical notation that
deviates from the standard one
- Is able to use the Sibelius music writing program to a basic
extent
- Knows the current situation on the music software market
(editors and DAWs)
Assessment criteria
Credit based on attendance (50%) and work during classes in the
Sibelius program – transcript (50%)
