Polish composers in the 20th century (module 3) 3106-KOMPL-KON
The seminar covers the history of music during the Young Poland period, with particular focus on the life and works of Karol Szymanowski (the Young Poland and neoclassical periods). Special attention is given to musical genres particularly popular in Young Poland’s music: the symphonic poem, song, and opera. The works of Young Poland composers are presented in the context of other arts that inspired them, especially literature, poetry, and painting. Students gain knowledge about the life and works of Young Poland composers and also undertake an individual project in any artistic medium, engaging in a creative dialogue with the musical heritage of Young Poland.
