Romanesque and early Gothic architecture in Poland 3101-DMAR
The lectures are devoted to the development of Romanesque and early Gothic architecture in Polish lands. The aim is to show it in the light of early Christianization of Polish lands and in the structures of early statehood. The subject of the lectures is based on the oldest and newest literature of the subject and on the results of the lecturer's own research. It includes secular and religious buildings in chronological, regional and functional division. The special emphasis is on monastic architecture. The lectures are richly illustrated with thematic presentations prepared in PowerPoint.

Learning outcomes
After attending to the series of lectures and getting acquainted with the literature of the subject, student will gain a basic view on the development of stone and brick architecture in the Vistula and Odra river basins from 10/11th to 13/14th . Students will also acquire the skills of recognizing technological features, spatial forms (external and internal) and functional types of medieval mason buildings. This will provide the basis for further targeted studies and will provide the foundation for architectural and archaeological research.
Assessment criteria
Participation in lectures and knowledge of recommended literature. The subject ends with an oral exam consisting of questions devoted to: 1/ the formal qualities of Romanesque and early Gothic architecture, 2/ characteristics of objects typical for secular, sacred buildings and particular regions of Polish lands, discussed in the lectures and described in the referenced literature, 3/ illustrative part - recognizing basic elements of architecture (buildings, decorations, construction techniques, etc.)

General knowledge of history of Polish lands in 10th -14th.
