Human Osteology Laboratory 3101-DKWAR
The class is a laboratory and is being held at the storage facility of Institute of Archaeology. It is designed for students of archaeology interested in bioarchaeology (physical anthropology), that have knowledge on human osteology. The laboratory gives rare opportunity to work with the original material retrieved at the time of the excavations (human and animal bones) and allows to acquire experience in bioarchaeology.
The program is flexible and based on the participants’ interests and the material – human bones – available.
The material – human bones – comes from the excavations and consists of two main types – cremated bones, and bones coming from the skeletal burials. They present many different types of state of preservation allowing to see many different aspects of their taphonomy (post depositional processes, environmental conditions of preservations, traces of the faunal and floral activities). A lot of attention is being drawn to the proper documentation.
The course is complementary with "Human Osteology Laboratory - Paleopathology" (instructor: E. Jaskulska, MA) and will be given at the same time and place.
