Lithuanian Translation Workshop 2 3020-BB2TRL
The aim of the course is to prepare students for translation of different types of literary texts. By looking at selected translations and their critical analysis, and through practical exercises on selected texts, participants of the workshops become acquainted with the methodology of the translation work, learn the potential traps that lurk for the translator, learn responsibility for their interpretive choices and solutions for translation strategies.
Estimated workload:
translation - 60 hours (2 ECTS)
Self-preparation for the classes and preparation of the text for the credit - 90 hours (3 ECTS)

Learning outcomes
Knowledge:
- knows the basic principles of text translation and applies them in practice;
- Has an adequate vocabulary, terms and phrases used in the official style of Lithuanian and Polish (within the scope of the translations carried out);
Skills:
- translates various types of texts independently, taking care of the accuracy of the translation and linguistic correctness;
- takes care to ensure that the content of the translation is consistent with the original and, to this end, uses the information available in specialist sources (book and Internet editions)
- knows the basic principles of intellectual property protection (e.g. in terms of citation)
Social competences:
- is aware of respecting the principles of professional ethics;
- understands the need to actively participate in his/her own learning and the necessity of continuous professional development.
Assessment criteria
Evaluation of active participation in classes and evaluation of the translation of the selected text.
Students are entitled to 2 absences per semester, each subsequent absence to be credited as agreed with the instructor.
During the course, students may use SI tools e.g. to collect materials, to compile research status and to create bibliographies. The use of SI tools for interpretative purposes, for the creation of a written statement or for the elaboration of text extracts is excluded.
