Topic Selection.
– Traditional contrastive analysis, applied and theoretical confrontative studies with a semantic interlanguage.
– The structure of the interlanguage, its character and functions. – Formal level vs. meaning level (sentences).
– Form vs. function.
– Morphological category vs. semantic category.
– Description of selected semantic categories (e.g., time, definiteness-indefiniteness). Identification of exponents in Polish and Lithuanian for the distinguished subcategories of meaning.
Individual topics are discussed based on works in linguistics, language engineering, and available online resources and language tools.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the seminar, the student will be able to:
– correctly identify the assumptions and methods of traditional (formal) and contemporary approaches used in the analysis of linguistic facts; know resources and tools for linguistic analysis (including taggers, corpora of Baltic and Slavic languages); distinguish between the formal and semantic levels of language,
– be capable of performing a linguistic analysis within formal and semantic frameworks; utilize resources and tools during material excerpting and linguistic analysis.
Assessment criteria
The final grade will be determined by active participation in class and presentations of chosen linguistics articles.
Students may miss up to two classes per semester; additional absences require prior arrangement with the lector.
Students are permitted to utilize AI models and tools during sessions – for instance, for collecting resources, conducting research, outlining existing scholarship, or compiling bibliographies. However, using generative AI for interpretation, composing written work, or drafting text is not allowed.
In accordance with Resolution No. 98 of the University Education Council dated December 8, 2023, concerning guidelines for the use of artificial intelligence tools in the educational process, and Resolution of the Faculty of Polish Studies Didactic Council dated February 27, 2024, regarding guidelines for the use of artificial intelligence tools in the educational process at the Faculty of Polish Studies, the use of artificial intelligence systems for proofreading and editing written coursework and graded presentations written in Polish or translated into Polish from other languages is prohibited.
The student workload expressed in ECTS points is as follows:
- class attendance: (60 hours) 2 ECTS,
- preparation for classes: (60 hours) 2 ECTS,
- presentation preparation: (90 hours) 3 ECTS
