Discussion Course in Literature 3020-BA2K-L
During the course, we will discuss the major processes in contemporary Lithuanian literature, using poetry and prose translated into Polish as examples. Through the works of the most significant Lithuanian authors of the second half of the 20th century and early 21st century (prose: Kondrotas, Parulskis, Ivanauskaitė, Radvilavičiūtė, Gavelis, Ivaškevičius, Kunčius, Šlepikas; poetry: Geda, Vaičiūnaitė, Martinaitis, Miliauskaitė, Platelis, Kajokas, Jonynas, Parulskis, Marčėnas, Grajauskas), we will analyze various trends and phenomena in Lithuanian literature of the past half-century, as well as observe how literary texts and writers' attitudes can reflect socio-historical processes.

Learning outcomes
Knowledge:
– student has knowledge about recent literary tendencies;
– student can identify main contemporary Lithuanian writers and is able to characterise their work;
(Abilities)
- analyzes and interprets literary texts, taking into account the historical and cultural context;
- presents a brief statement analysis and interpretation in the Lithuanian language;
- interprets and uses the literature on the subject (also in Lithuanian);
- correctly chooses and uses right techniques for translation of selected literary works.
(Attitudes)
- understand the role of literature as a sphere which is the reflection of historical processes and social phenomena;
- understand the role of the translator of literary communication.
Assessment criteria
Attendance check (the student is entitled to 2 absences per semester, each subsequent absence should be credited in a manner agreed with the instructor) and evaluation of active participation in class. Presentation of a selected author or work.
