Learning outcomes
Upon completing the course, the student:
• knows the basic concepts of contrastive grammar
• is familiar with the repertoire of Polish and English grammatical categories
• points to basic typological differences between English and Polish
• uses selected monolingual and parallel corpora
• points to grammatical structures that may constitute a major challenge for translators
• justifies their choice of a given structure as a translational equivalent
• notices and corrects syntagmatic translation errors in a translated text
• is ready to take part in group discussion concerning the functions of grammatical structures
Assessment criteria
Basic requirements
- attendance (see rules below)
- active participation in class (discussion, tasks, individual and group work during classes)
Estimated workload
- class participation: 30 hours (1 ECTS),
- preparing for classes and the final test ( individual work at home): 15 hours (0,5 ECTS).
Attendance provisions
1. Each student is entitled to two unexcused absences per semester.
2. If a student has more unexcused absences, they do not receive credit for the course.
3. If a student wishes to have their absences excused, they must document an objective reasons (e.g., sick leave) within a week.
4. The student is obliged to make up the unallowed excused absences in the manner specified by the instructor.

Grading will be based on the final written test (comprising multiple choice and open-ended questions). Passing grade: 60%.
Rules on artificial intelligence.
1. If a student wants to (for the purpose of a course credit paper or thesis) use artificial intelligence tools, he/she must:
a. get permission from the instructor of the course,
b. consult with the instructor on the objectives and scope of the use of artificial intelligence tools.
2. A student may not use artificial intelligence tools to revise papers in Polish unless the instructor agrees to it.
3. If a student uses artificial intelligence tools:
a. without the consent of the instructor or
b. in a manner not agreed with them,
the instructor shall apply procedures analogous to those used in the anti-plagiarism procedure. These procedures are described by the University's Education Council in Resolution 14.
