Introduction to Classical Philology 3006-WFK-1
The lecture is an introduction to the study of classical Greek and Latin literature. The students learn the history of transmission of Greek and Latin texts from Antiquity to the Renaissance, study the basic methods of classical philologist skills and learn the history of the Classical Philology as an academic discipline with its history in Poland. They also study the basic research tools in the field of classical studies – the most important dictionaries, encyclopedias and other study aids, printed and digital.

- has the knowledge about the transmission problems of classical literature texts from Antiquity to the Renaissance
- names and uses the research tools (dictionaries, encyclopedias, bibliographies, digital resorces) essential for classical philologist
- knows in outline the history of the Classical Philology as an academic discipline and the history of the Classical Philology at universities in Poland.
- defines the main courses of development and the most important achievements in the fields of Classical Philology
- has elementary knowledge about connections between Classical Philology and related humanistic disciplines
- uses the research terminology applied in the Classical Philology
in the range of abilities
- potrafi wyszukiwać, analizować, oceniać, selekcjonować i integrować informacje z różnych źródeł oraz formułować na tej podstawie krytyczne sądy;
- can find out, analyze, judge, select and integrate information from various sources and formulates critical opinions on their basis
- potrafi przeprowadzić kwerendę biblioteczną, wykorzystywać bazy danych i posługiwać się w celu zdobywania informacji Internetem,
- can do a preliminary survey of the library holdings using databases and use Internet to acquire information
in the range of social competences
- has a deep consciousness of the importance of the ancient studies and other humanistic disciplines in order of maintaining the development and the social ties on various levels.
