Greek and Latin Literature - Prose 3006-LGiŁ-P
The classes are aimed at familiarizing the students with the history of the ancient prose from its early days in the Greek archaic epoch to the fifth century. During the classes the student should get elementary historical, literary information and abilities of reading and interpretation of the basic texts from this field. The all basic genres of the historical, literary and philosophical prose in the both ancient literatures, their genesis, development and significance to the Greek and Latin culture are presented.
During the classes the most important works of this field are discussed and interpreted.

Learning outcomes
The student
In the range of knowledge
- defines various genres of the historical, philosophical and literary prose
- characterizes their genesis, development and significance of the historical works to the Greek and Latin culture,
- describes the works of the ancient authors presented during the classes
in the range of abilities
- recognizes presented genres of the prose
- analyses them and interprets the historical works using the basic critical terminology and appropriate methods
in the social competences
- describes the level of their own knowledge,
- appreciates the role of the ancient historical prose for the historiography of later periods,
- cooperates in a group
- discusses in public.
Assessment criteria
The classes have the form of a seminar, the students should read the earier given and prepered by the teacher reading (articles, fragments of monographies), the designated students prepare the introduction to the classes after which the discussion comes. The mark is given on the grounds of student’s preparing to the classes, activity during them and the exam.
