Psychoanalytic and literary discourses of desire in the fin-de-siècle period 3002-KON2022K34
The course curriculum includes an introduction and discussion of selected psychoanalytic, early sexological, and literary texts of the European fin-de-siècle period. The reading of excerpts from the most important works on psychoanalysis, psychiatry, and literary modernism will be accompanied by insightful reflection on the dynamics of the circulation of knowledge between psycho-medical sciences, psychoanalysis, and modernist literature in both Western and Central and Eastern European contexts. During this course, we will discuss selected texts on literary modernism, psychoanalytic theory, and early-sexological discourses.

Learning outcomes
Knowledge: - Students know and understand the peculiarities of psycho-medical and psychoanalytic discourses forming at the turn of the 20th century and can recognize their connections with literary modernism - Students know and understand the basic issues of psychoanalytic history and theory and early sexological treatises, which they can relate to the most important examples of literary works of the late 19th and first three decades of the 20th century Skills: - Students can use their knowledge to independently search, analyze, evaluate, select, and integrate information from a variety of sources in the field of psychoanalytic studies and new research on modernism and can use them in independent research projects - Students can continuously develop themselves in the field of the history of psycho-medical discourses, psychoanalytic theory, and literary modernism, as well as develop themselves intellectually and professionally Social competencies: - Students can subject the reading material to in-depth interpretation and critical evaluation - Students will be able to demonstrate open-mindedness and research curiosity about the complexity of the history of fin-de-siècle psycho-medical sciences, psychoanalytic theory, and the history of European modernist literature; they will also be able to recognize the most important cultural transformations that have significantly influenced the history of psychoanalysis, sexology, and literary modernism. - Students are familiar with the most important contemporary research centers on modernism, psychoanalysis, and the history of psychomedical sciences and are able to seek further knowledge in the field that interests them.
Assessment criteria
Attendance is a necessary condition for completing the course (two absences per semester are allowed; a greater number of absences (not more than 30%) can be credited at consultations with the lecturer).
