Contemporary cultural institutions and practices 3002-2S1M2023F4
During the seminar, I propose to reflect on contemporary transformations of forms of social institutions and activities in Polish culture. The seminar is particularly addressed to those who are interested in the sphere of social practices and field research. The first semester of the seminar will be devoted to the methodology of qualitative research, the planning of the thesis and the preparation and partial implementation of the research project.
The reading list will be agreed with the students and tailored to the topics of their theses.

The student knows:
- methodologies of cultural studies and related research methods
- principles of copyright and intellectual property protection and their cultural implications
The student is able to:
- use her/his knowledge to search, analyse, evaluate, select, integrate information from various sources and to use it in her/his research projects and present their results in an appropriate and creative way
- use research methodologies and tools (including digital ones) in the humanities and to present and synthesise the data obtained using these methods; adapt existing research tools or create new ones for her/his own research purposes.
- write a research paper, independently formulating a research problem, selecting sources and scientific literature and an appropriate methodology; correctly formulate statements and judgments in speech and writing
- independently conduct research under the guidance of a supervisor
The student is ready to:
- adopt an attitude of respect and research curiosity towards various cultural phenomena, including the use of acquired knowledge to solve observed problems and consulting experts
- engage in social and intercultural dialogue with understanding and empathy
- seek the dissemination and openness of knowledge
Assessment criteria
Assessment based on:
- active participation in class
- the quality of the completion of several assignments on the platform
- developing - with the use of the selected methodology - a research plan for issues related to the master's thesis.
Number of acceptable absences: 2.
Absence from 30% of the classes makes it impossible to pass the course.
