Elements of economic history 2990-MZ-K3-PHG
The purpose of the discussion classes is to make students acquainted with the selected basic issues in economic history including the results of economic thought. Students will learn both an outline of economic historiography, its links with other fields of human activities, and main currents in economics and their “founding fathers”. Then, we will focus our attention on the typology of economic systems (from archaic to the nowaday ones) and their structure. The next classes will be dedicated to the basic economic breakthroughs and economic spaces – their development and non-political divisions. Then, we will concentrate on basic economic issues as markets, development – growth – crisis, a role of states in economic life, money, standards of living, and cultural dimension of economic life. Theories will be confronted with historical realities (between medieval history and 21th century).

Students should acquire:
– a knowledge of the selected economic notions and issues;
– a knowledge of the selected issues of an economic history;
– an understanding of relationships between economic theory and historical phenomena and processes in various periods.
