History and Archaeology of Bronze Age Mesopotamia 2900-HAMC-EL-K1-HABM
The Bronze Age Mesopotamia may be treated as a „formative area/period” for a dramatic and multifacial development of cultures and civilisations in the Ancient Near East, and then – the early civilisations of the Mediterranean, these called „classical”. Our conversation should deal then with, on the one hand, specific and local features of the cultures encountered, while on the other hand – with features to be followed in neighbouring and yet further-off cultural circles. The so-called „formation precesses” will be given intensive attention (the “inventions”), be it urbanisation, social differentiation/stratification, crafts specialisation, writing, figurative arts, etc. Ethnic/linguistic issues should come up, and the scripts (giving access to “cognitive” aspects) shall be analysed, preliminarily. Fundamental aspects of the society (technology, social structure, ideological/religious issues) shall be addressed – variety of sources kept in mind.
