Archeology of Anatolia 2800-DWANA
The main issues of the archaeology of Anatolia from the first settlements (GöbekliTepe, NevaliÇori) to the fall of the Hittite empire will be discussed during the lecture. The students will be introduced with the various regions of Anatolia (Pontic, Aegean, Mediterranean, central, and eastern) and their archaeological cultures and main sites. Settlement pattern, architecture, pottery traditions, ancient beliefs, metallurgy or mortuary practices will be analysed. Neolithic revolution, the first temples, the role of Anatolia as cultural bridge and its interaction with neighbors (Caucasus, Mesopotamia, Balkans) are other issues that will be presented during the lecture. The history of the Old Assyrian trade colonies will be the focus subject of the Middle Bronze Age in Anatolia. The history of the Hittite empire and its culture and economy will be discussed in details. The lecture provides versatile overview on the archeology of the ancient Anatolia
