Legal issues in the library 2700-ZPB-BSP
Course covers basic law regulations in Poland that have direct impact on Polish libraries. Basic law act discussed during the course is the Libraries Act and all regulations derived from it. Course analyzes the essence of libraries’ activities as defined in the Act, consequences of some regulations and its practical applications in libraries’ work. Course also analyzes legal status of digital libraries and limitations deriving from Libraries Act and Copyright Act. Copyright issues are analyzed from its practical applications, differences between private and public fair use and the scope of claims that copyright owners can execute on culture institutions. Course also discusses the subject of libraries’ charges, the legal basis for charging users, scope and amount of the charges and Civil Act regulations that can help libraries to execute due payments.
